Traveling To Grand Isle Resort

Flight & Travel Information

The Bahamas are comprised of 700 individual islands.  The main islands are New Providence (Nassau) and Grand Bahama (Freeport). Many of the smaller “out islands” like Great Exuma have their own airports with direct flights from the U.S. and daily flight service from Nassau on smaller Bahamian Airlines.

Traveling to Great Exuma is easier than ever. The airport on Great Exuma is called George Town Airport or Exuma International Airport. The airport code is GGT. There are direct flights to Great Exuma from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and from Nassau, Bahamas on various Bahamian Airlines.

Money Saving Secret!

Many times if you are using a popular online booking engine to search for flights to Great Exuma, airlines that are based in the Bahamas don’t appear because they are not “code share partners” with the large commercial air carriers. They operate more like “air taxis” and their reservation systems are not connected to the global flight reservation system that many large commercial air carriers and online booking engines use.

Flying to Nassau from your home city and then connecting on a Bahamian airline to fly over to Great Exuma is an easy cost effective option.  It just takes a few minutes of simple planning. Below is basic travel information for various flight options to Great Exuma:

NEW! Direct Service from Atlanta on Delta

Delta Airlines has direct jet service to Great Exuma from Atlanta on Wednesdays and Sundays.  Check Delta.com for flights, rates and availability.

NEW! Direct Service from Toronto on Air Canada

Air Canada has direct service to Great Exuma from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  Check Air Canada Vacations for flights, rates and availability.

Ft. Lauderdale to Great Exuma

From Ft. Lauderdale we advise guests to consider Gulfstream International Airlines, which is a Continental Airlines code share partner.  Their service varies based on the season, so check with the airline directly for their current schedule.

Miami to Great Exuma

American Airlines typically has direct daily service from Miami to Great Exuma on their American Eagle service. The frequencies of these flights changes throughout the season so, please plan ahead and check with the airline.

To Great Exuma through Nassau

Recently many of the large commercial airlines have increased the frequency of their flights with very competitive fares from most major U.S. and Canadian cities (and Europe) into Nassau.  These flights are an excellent option as there are wonderful Bahamas based carriers that offer numerous daily short “air taxi” flights to Great Exuma from Nassau.

Major Air Carriers Now Serving Nassau

American Airlines, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Air Canada, United Airlines, Jet Blue, Spirit Airlines, West Jet (Canadian) and US Airways.

Bahamas Based Airlines

The Bahamian airlines we recommend that offer daily round trip service to Great Exuma include Sky Bahamas and our national air carrier, Bahamasair.

As an example, the flight schedules for Great Exuma and Nassau with Sky Bahamas and Bahamasair are provided below (of course please check with the airline for actual times). Both airlines ask guests to be at the gate 60 minutes prior to scheduled flight time.  Please check with the airline of your choice for reservations and travel details.

Travel Planning for Flights from Nassau

To take advantage of the option of flying a larger air carrier into Nassau and then “puddle jumping” over to Great Exuma on one of the local Bahamian airlines you just need to plan accordingly and give yourself enough time to land in Nassau, move through immigration at the International Arrivals Terminal, get your bags and make your way over to the Domestic Terminal to get your ticket, drop your bags and board your flight to Great Exuma.  If you can arrange to land in Nassau in the late morning and then take an afternoon flight to Great Exuma you should be fine on time. Both Sky Bahamas and Bahamasair ask guests to be at the gate 60 minutes prior to the scheduled flight time.  Getting from one terminal to another at the Nassau Airport is an easy, short walk and can be serviced with Sky Caps should you need assistance with your luggage.

Nassau International Airport

Nassau International Airport has been improved very much over the past 2 years with the addition of restaurants and shopping. More improvements are underway over the next 5 years as part of a much larger overall improvement plan.

Going through the Domestic Terminal at the Nassau Airport to board your flight to Great Exuma is easy because your immigration process is done when you land in Nassau from outside the Bahamas.  In fact, when you land in Great Exuma you are already a “cleared” visitor and will have not have to wait in line when you get there.

A valid passport is required for all individuals traveling to the Bahamas!
